The Cats
🐈 can i bring my own cat?
Unfortunately no, but we have plenty of cats to enjoy!
🐈 how many cats do you have?
Typically 20-25 at any given time.
😺 are the cats up for adoption?
Yes! We partner with Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue Team who provide us the cats that reside at the café until they are adopted. All cats are up to date on shots, microchipped, and are spayed/neutered.
If you are interested in adopting one of our resident cats, you can apply to adopt through the rescue’s website (Adoption Application (fancycats.org).
The rescue will review your application and forward to us if it is approved. We review it to make sure you have been in to meet the cat, and that the cat is a good fit for your home. Typically, you will hear from the us or the rescue in about 24-48 hours. Additional paperwork or clarifications may be necessary and may delay the adoption process beyond this time period.
Please read Fancy Cats’ adoption policies before applying (Cat Adoption Policies (fancycats.org)).
All adoption fees go directly to Fancy Cats rescue to transport, vaccinate, spay/neuter, and provide any other medical care for the animals.
The adoption fees:
One Cat (ages 6 mo - 7 years) - $200
One Cat (ages 8+) - $100
Two Cats under 7 years - $300
Fee Sponsored Cats are free to an approved adopter
Please note, we do not “hold” cats. If you are interested in a cat, but cannot bring them home within a week, we cannot guarantee that cat will be available when you are ready. Because there are always cats that need to be pulled from kill shelters, we like to make room for new cats as soon as we can.
🐈 I AM INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. WHAT NEXT?
No young kittens. Our cats range in age, with the youngest being 6 months. We purposefully do not house kittens here, as our focus is rescuing cats that have been overlooked, often sitting in cages for long periods of time. Kittens have no problem getting adopted; we are trying to help the ones that need to shine!
🐈 do you Have any kittens?
With some notable exceptions such as the Middle East and the Caribbean, most of our cats come from shelters in southern Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Tennessee.
Prior to ending up in shelters, the cats have a variety of backgrounds; many were strays and found outdoors. Others were owner surrenders or ended up in shelters after their owners passed away or could no longer take care of them.
At Mount Purrnon, they have a comfortable and safe place to hang out and play until they get adopted.
🐈 where do the cats come from?
🐈 how long does it take for the cats to get adopted typically?
Median time in the café is around 3 weeks but we have had some cats take 6 months + to get adopted while others were here for less than a day.
🐈 can i surrender my cat to you?
All of our cats come to us via Fancy Cats Rescue. We do not intake any cats separately. If you have found a cat or need to surrender a cat, please contact the rescue at info@fancycats.org. Please be aware they get requests from all over and may not have space to take any new cats.
